About Me
Photo Series

Artist Statement

For this project, I took inspiration from a prompt that was initially suggested and decided to snap photos of items in my surroundings that I feel have the ability to tell stories of my life and/or represent who I am. Most of the items that I have pictured have little to no value to the average person, but to me, they all are worth more than anyone can imagine; for each item can tell the audience something about myself, whether it be about my past, my hobbies, or my personality. While I was picking through the valuables that I thought would be best to showcase in this project, I was also stumbling upon multiple opportunities to reflect on my life as I knew it. Just by observing these items, I was able to essentially go back in time by thinking about the moments that were associated with each respective prop. I was reminded of our class discussions about the Sontag reading we had earlier in the semester; where we find photographs worth taking, we also find moments worth experiencing. This project, in a way, acted as a journey down memory lane, and a much needed one at that. The angles and lighting vary greatly throughout these photos, as I was primarily focused on trying to get those extreme close-ups as best as possible. I will say that I could have done better with the lighting on some pictures, but I was overall proud with how these photos came out, especially with the Xbox controller (which I just had to display first in this slide show).
