Game Details

I had the story of my original video game in mind since the beginning of the semester, but I never knew how it would play out. Fortunately, as time went on, I was able to put most of that story into Scratch. The rules of the game are simple: Collect the Three Keys (Blue, Green, and Red keys) found in different levels throughout the game to then be able to unlock a door. After that, defeat the final boss (Burkitts) to save Darby from his curse and help him return home. The adversaries - though, they appear to be very intimidating - are actually pretty easy to take down, as they remain stationary throughout the game; simply walk into them to make them disappear. It should be noted that it is not required to take down Burkitts's minions (Mr. Krabs) in the levels leading up to the boss battle. All that is needed to progress through the game is to collect all Three Keys before approaching the boss's door.

List of levels:

Level 1 - Darby spawns in his familiar, peaceful world, receiving dialogue about his call to action.

Level 2 - Along with additional dialogue about what Darby must do, a portal leading to the Unfamiliar is revealed.

Level 3 - Going through the portal leads to a new world to explore... and an ambush by two Mr. Krabs.

Level 4 - The Blue Key is revealed in a platform above Darby, being guarded below by one Mr. Krabs.

Level 5 - The Green Key is revealed. The two Mr. Krabs guards block the Key on platforms leading to it.

Level 6 - The Red Key is revealed, where it can be retrieved by making a big leap. Two Mr. Krabs await below.

Level 7 - Darby is greeted with new dialogue, encouraging him to step up to what awaits beyond the locked door.

Level 8 - Darby comes face-to-face with Burkitts; the boss battle commences.

Level 9 - After defeating Burkitts, a portal leading back home is revealed.

Level 10 - Darby finds himself back home with the Great Bell available to ring.

Level 11 - The closing scene; Darby (now with no hair) finds himself in a hospital ringing a smaller bell; almost as if what he just experienced was all a dream.
