"When It Rains..."
by Braeden Bakken

I like to think of myself as an "outside" kind of person; and as someone who loves the outdoors, I know that fun can come to a halt at anytime thanks to rain. Yep, boring. But who says that the fun has to stop there? Sure the rain may force us to stay indoors, but with that offers the opportunity to improvise. So consider this, as you will, as a tutorial for overcoming rainy days.
Perhaps the most common thing to do is to turn on the TV and see what you can find. Odds are that after flipping through channels almost endlessly, you are bound to hit the jackpot. Maybe you'll find a movie you wouldn't mind rewatching; maybe you'll find your new favorite show. If you're like me, then sports is the way to go. Lucky for me, sports are on all the time and I'll end up flipping from one game to the next.
(Ignore the fact my Canes are getting destroyed in this picture)

If you ask me, the first thing I do when it starts raining is play video games. Video games are a great way to pass the time, especially if I can play them on a handheld console; just relaxing in bed and playing on the Switch is all I need for a rainy day. Otherwise, you would probably find me gaming online with my friends and making moments that last a lifetime.

Just because the rain's happening outside doesn't mean it can't interfere with what's happening inside. What if the internet goes out? Or even the power? You would have to kiss the TV and online gaming goodbye then, because it would be time to get really old school. For instance, if there's someone nearby, take the opportunity to play a board game with them. A perfect board game for two people would be backgammon, as seen here. Just make sure it's a friendly competition.

I'll admit; reading is not exactly my forte. But in a situation where it is pouring rain outside, maybe it is a good idea to sit down and start on a new book. If the book's "trial" proves to be successful, you could end up reading it until its very last page. What I am seen reading here is more pictures than words; but they are pictures of what my home looked like decades ago.

Speaking of pictures, you could use the rainy day as a opportunity to reminisce; pop open the box filled with old photos and take a stroll, an emotional one at that, down memory lane. It might leave you with a smile on your face, along with happy tears to boot; or it might leave you cringing. Whatever the case may be, this presents itself as a great time to reflect on life as you know it.

Exploring all of these activities together could take up the entire day and are surely to occupy your time while the rain is falling. If you're lucky enough, maybe the clouds will start to part ways after a couple hours and reveal the sun once again. But even if it starts to dry up outside, you could be already focused in on the new hobbies you have taken up and save the outside for tomorrow.
